1Password - Troubleshooting: "Problem connecting to your identity provider" ServerError: 403 (oidc_generic_domain_not_allowed)

This guide provides solutions for common issues with 1Password in your browser or desktop app. Follow the steps below to resolve problems and ensure a smooth experience.

UW-Madison has its own 1Password instance. When trying to sign in using NetID with the generic 1Password sign-in address, you'll receive the following error:

Problem connecting to identify provider error

Check that you are signing into 1Password using the uw-madison.1password.com Sign-in address. Use https://uw-madison.1password.com/ in your browser or update the Sign-in address in the app:

Sign In details

Unfortunately, the 1Password browser extension doesn’t know to start with this. Check out the instructions here for getting signed into the browser extension: 1Password - Set Up and Unlock 1Password on a New Device

If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please contact the UW-Madison 1Password Team at 1passwordadmins@office365.wisc.edu.

Important Note from UW Health: Please DO NOT store credentials for UW Health or Meriter systems in 1Password.
