SMPH Azure Virtual Machine (AVD)
What is SMPH AVD?
In essence, it is an SMPH computer that has no physical form.
SMPH Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is a virtual machine or virtual computer maintained by SMPH to give remote access to basic programs and department resources. These include Microsoft Office and the Adobe Suite, and in most cases departmental network drives and printers.
Epic can be reached from within SMPH AVD using the UWHealth Citrix website.
What Are Some Common Use Cases?
SMPH AVD is accessible through a simple website published worldwide making it useful for:
Residents, Fellows, Researchers, and Students
Anyone who does not receive a department-issued computer can use SMPH AVD to access departmental resources and/or Epic.
Faculty and Staff
SMPH AVD provides access to departmental resources from anywhere, whether they are working from a UWHealth computer or traveling.
External Collaborators
External Collaborators such as UWHealth employees can use SMPH AVD to access department resources without the need for a department-issued computer.
What Are Some Limitations?
Files cannot be moved between a user’s physical computer and SMPH AVD.
Copy and paste functionality between the physical computer and SMPH AVD is not supported.
How Do I Access SMPH AVD?
First time
[External collaborators] will need someone to request SMPH AVD access through the External Collaborator form under User Support Services (USS) in Navigator.
[Everyone else] will need to send in a General Support Request under User Support Services (USS) in Navigator. Ask for access to SMPH AVD, and mention your use case, whether it matches one of the above use cases or your own.
