How to exchange a parking permit
If you already have an active permit and want to switch to a different one, follow these steps based on the type of permit you need.
To get a different base lot, flex, park & ride / remote lot, UW accessible, or carpool permit
Step 1: Apply for the new permit
Submit a new application.
- Follow the steps to apply for a base lot, flex, park & ride / remote lot, or UW accessible permit.
- Follow the steps to apply for a carpool permit.
Step 2: Wait for your offer
Transportation Services will notify you if a new permit becomes available.
While you wait: You can keep using your current permit or cancel it and find another way to commute.
Step 3: Complete the exchange
If you kept your old permit: You must go to a Transportation Services office to exchange it in person.
If you already canceled your old permit: You can buy the new one online using the instructions in your offer letter.
Fees: There is an administrative fee for most exchanges.
To get a buy-it-now permit, short-term permit, or bus pass
(Includes afternoon, night, semester, monthly, moped, motorcycle, employee bus pass, or Lot 76 quick pass)
Step 1: Buy the new permit or pass
Purchase the new permit online through the eBusiness portal or in person.

- Review short-term permit options
- Employee bus pass information.
Step 2: Cancel your old permit
Once you have the new one, follow these steps to return or cancel your old permit:
