Web Hosting - Linux Limited SSH Access
Customers have secure FTP access, which also includes a chrooted (jailed) shell in Plesk. This secure and restricted environment limits access to only the user’s home directory, preventing access to other domains’ spaces.
Plesk provides two primary methods to access the command line interface (CLI) via SSH:
- Directly within the Plesk Control Panel using the SSH Terminal feature.
- Select the SSH Terminal in your Plesk Dashboard:

- Remotely using an external SSH client
- Open your terminal.
- ssh youruserid@sitename.wisc.edu
The /bin/bash chrooted shell offers a restricted set of executable programs that can be run on the file system.
