WiscIT - Linking Configuration Items to Change Requests

There are multiple ways to link Configuration Items to a Change Request in WiscIT:

From the Related Items pane

The Related Items pane in WiscIT allows users to free-text search objects to relate to the Change Request. The WiscIT team recommends using this for Change Requests that only need to be linked to a single Configuration Item or a small number of Configuratino Items. To use the Related Items pane to search for Configuration Items:

1. Create a Change Request. See WiscIT - Creating Change Requests for more information.

2. If the Related Items Pane is not open, use the double-left arrows on the right-hand side of the Change Request to open it.

3. Use the Search Bar in the Related Items Pane to search for Configuration Items via a free-text search.

4. Left-click a search result to view the brief form.

5. Click Link to Change. Note: as of the publishing of the document, the CI Tab on a Change Request must first have been opened at least once for the "Link to Change" button to work.

6. Save the record.

From the CI Tab

The Link Interface accessible via the CI tab on a Change Request is a powerful feature, but can be difficult to use quickly. The WiscIT team recommends using this interface for the following use-cases:

• Numerous configuration items need to be linked to the Change Request.

• A favorite search exists that allows easy access to the configuration item(s) that need(s) to be linked to the Change Request.

• Searching the related items pane is not successful.

The Link Interface has two different methods for searching CIs:

Using Favorite Searches

1. Create a Change Request. See WiscIT - Creating Change Requests for more information.

2. Click the CI Tab to open it.

3. Click Link to open the link menu.

4. Click Favorite Searches if it is not already selected.

5. Use the drop-down to select a search from your favorites.

6. Either Double Click a Configuration Item to link it, or Single Click then click Select.Use Shift-Click or Ctrl-Click to select and link multiple Configuration Items simultaneously.

7. Save the record.

Using a Custom Search

1. Create a Change Request. See WiscIT - Creating Change Requests for more information.

2. Click the CI Tab to open it.

3. Click Link to open the link menu.

4. Click Custom Search if it is not already selected.

5. The default custom search uses a Name contains clause.To search for a partial name, replace the asterisk with the search string. Alternatively, construct a custom search using criteria for a specific use-case.

6. Click Search.

7. Either Double Click a Configuration Item to link it, or Single Click then click Select.Use Shift-Click or Ctrl-Click to select and link multiple Configuration Items simultaneously.

8. Save the record.
