WiscWeb - 403 'Access Denied" error

For UW Theme 2.0 sites in WiscWeb, the 403 error indicates that the user is not authenticating while connected to a campus IP address. Learn which theme you are using.

The 403 error states "Access Denied".

The error states: “You are likely seeing this error because you are off campus and not connected to VPN…”

Issue

The user is attempting to login to WiscWeb but is not connected to a campus IP address.

Troubleshooting depends on whether you are on campus or off campus.

I’m on campus

If you are on campus but not yet connected to the campus network, you will need to connect before you can login to WiscWeb.

If you are on campus and already connected to the campus network through UWNet or a hardwired connection, this is usually an indicator that your building may have custom network configuration.. Please reach out to your local IT and ask:  “Is our network changing our public IP addresses?” We are not able to influence this if your building network is changing your IP.

I’m off campus

If you are off campus, this is an indicator that you need to connect through WiscVPN. Other VPN networks will not work.

If you already have WiscVPN installed on your computer, simply login and then try accessing WiscWeb.

If you do not have the WiscVPN installed on your computer, please download and connect: WiscVPN GlobalProtect (All OS) - Installing, Updating, Connecting, and Uninstalling
