WiscWeb - Adding CAPTCHA to Gravity Forms

CAPTCHA is a simple test that allows the browser to distinguish between a human user of your form and machine input by a bot. This should not be needed if you are using UW Theme 2.0 as there is spam protection running in the background of that environment. However, if you're still seeing issues, we recommend reaching out to the WiscWeb team to make us aware.

Important

Update about Gravity Forms regarding reCAPTCHA

Gravity Forms has started the process of deprecating their reCAPTCHA tooling within the current plugin and separating it into a Gravity Forms "add-on." Existing instances of the reCAPTCHA tooling will continue to work for a while but will eventually fall off. Any new sites created in WiscWeb will not have the reCAPTCHA option.

Decision for supporting reCAPTCHA within WiscWeb

The WiscWeb team is pausing on proceeding with the add-on for now as UW Theme 2.0 sites with forms should already be setup to help prevent spam.

Next steps for groups using reCAPTCHA now

If you notice that your reCAPTCHA is no longer showing up, we recommend the following steps:

  • Migrate to UW Theme 2.0
  • If already in UW Theme 2.0, remove the CAPTCHA option from your forms
    • Let us know if you continue to receive spam after this update

Next steps for groups wanting to add reCAPTCHA on a new site

reCAPTCHA will not be available on your new site. If you are having issues with spam on your forms in UW Theme 2.0, please reach out and let us know.
