Microsoft 365 (Android) - Configure the Native Email/Calendar App for Android

IMPORTANT: Microsoft just released a version of Outlook which will work with UW-Madison's implementation of Microsoft 365. This application is fully supported by Microsoft. Microsoft 365 team recommends that all users install/use this application instead of the native Android mail/calendaring clients.

Because Android devices from different carriers and manufacturers have differing user interfaces and features, we are unable to provide detailed step-by-step instructions. The basic information below, combined with instructions from your carrier, should get you connected.

Certain mobile devices that connect to your Microsoft 365 account via the Exchange/ActiveSync protocol can be remotely wiped. This is a useful feature that can help protect your privacy. Please read about Microsoft 365 - Remote Device Wipe to see if your device supports this and learn how it works. If you do not want remote wipe capability via Microsoft 365, your device may have the option to connect via IMAP, which you can read about in the following article: Microsoft 365 - Server and Account Configuration Settings. If connected via IMAP, you will only have access to your email.

Important note: When it comes to your calendar, we strongly recommend that you only use your mobile device for viewing—not accepting or declining meetings. Use Outlook or Outlook Web App (OWA) to accept or decline meetings.

UW-Madison contracts with two wireless carriers (Verizon Wireless and US Cellular) to provide the university staff with discounted rates on cell service. For further details on these services, review the following information: DoIT Cellular Service (Mobile).

Configure Your Mobile Device

Use the links below to find your device, and use the instructions to configure your account.

Once you begin the configuration process (select Exchange/Active Sync/Microsoft 365/Corporate account type), use the basic information below to configure your account. During the configuration process, you will be asked to agree to allow your device to be remote wiped/managed; you must agree to this to complete the configuration of your Microsoft 365 account. For further details on how remove wipe is being managed, review Microsoft 365 - Remote Device Wipe.

Important note: If you receive an error during the configuration process and are unable to connect to your Microsoft 365 account, return to the initial account setup screen, click on the Manual button, and then enter the required settings.
