Kaltura - Using Channels in Kaltura MediaSpace [UW-Madison]
A channel is a user-curated collection of related media and playlists in Kaltura MediaSpace. They can be configured to be open collaborative collections or private collections restricted to only certain individuals. You can use channels to:
- Upload and group media
- Add users and modify their channel permissions
- Share content using links and subscriptions
Note: Media can only be added to a maximum of 32 channels, Canvas Kaltura media galleries, or categories. See Kaltura - Known Issue - Limited Number of Courses, Channels, or Categories for a Kaltura Video [UW-Madison] for more information.

Adding members to a channel
- On the Channels page, click a channel to open it.
- Click the Channel Actions button in the upper right:
, then select Edit. - Click the Users tab.
- Click the Add Users button. In the Add Users window, start typing the user's NetID (username) to display a list of matching NetIDs.
The person you are trying to add must have logged into http://mediaspace.wisc.edu/ at least once in order for you to be able to find a person and add them to the channel. If the user has not logged in at least once you will get an error message: "Error: user does not exist". Once you've confirmed the user has logged into http://mediaspace.wisc.edu/ try adding them to the channel again.
- Select the user's NetID.
- Set the user's permission level:
- Member - View channel content only.
- Contributor - View channel content and add media to the channel.
- Moderator - View channel content, add media to the channel, deleted media from the channel, and moderate the channel
- Manager- View channel content, add media to the channel, delete media from the channel, moderate the channel, and manage the channel (delegate managerial rights to additional users).
Rights to media and channel role/privileges are separate. Being a moderator or manager on a channel does not give you rights to edit or publish the media in the channel. For example a channel manager can still only add or remove media they have owner or co-publisher rights to or that they have personally added to the channel to a channel playlist. Users have to grant co-publisher access to media via the Kaltura MediaSpace collaboration feature for them to have publishing rights to media and to add that media to channel playlists. See Kaltura - Media Collaboration: Changing Media Ownership, Adding Co-editors, Co-publishers, and Co-viewers [UW-Madison] for more information on the adding other users as collaborators on media.
- Click the Add button to add the user as a member of the channel.
