Program Codes (formerly known as activity codes) are fully defined by UW System here.
The primary program codes L&S departments use are:
| 0 | Student Services (in L&S, typically only in large organizations focused specifically on student services like Student Academic Affairs) |
| 2 | Instruction |
| 4 | Research |
| 5 | Outreach/public service |
| 6 | Academic support (college administration, libraries, sabbaticals, faculty development grants) |
| 9 | Financial aid (limited exposure in L&S) |
