The following device options include an "ease of use" rating based user testing.
Option Compatibility Ease of Use
Duo Mobile App Mobile and desktop authentication

Very easy to use

Once installed, the mobile app gives the choice between entering a passcode or receiving an "approve/deny" notification for authentication.

The mobile app was accessibility tested and should work using your screen reader. The app notification appears on your smartphone. Clicking approve will approve authentication.
Token/Fob Mobile and desktop authentication

Easy to use

A passcode is read off of the device and then entered into the authentication field.

Some may have difficulty reading the token code within the allotted time and syncing to their account.

USB Security Key Desktop authentication

Very easy to use

Will populate a passcode entry for use on other browsers and locally for desktop software with default registration.

Secondary U2F functionality will allow fast login on Chrome browser web apps.

Will need dongle adapter for Mac laptop USB-C ports.

Feitian Security Key is a key fob device with a sensor no push button to initiate login.

How to get access to a Security Key or Duo Token/Fob 

Students

Students, to obtain a token/fob, please contact the DoIT Help Desk (608) 264-4357 or email help@doit.wisc.edu. Students with disabilities can also request a token or security key at the McBurney Disability Resource Center, 702 W. Johnson St., Suite #2104, Madison WI 53715 on the 2nd floor.

Faculty, Staff, and Researchers

Employees can get access to devices for MFA at their Human Resources Office or IT department. For questions contact the DoIT Help Desk at (608) 264-4357 or email help@doit.wisc.edu.
