Getting Started in Salesforce

This document provides information for OAR staff new to Salesforce.

Gaining Access

An important step in gaining access to Salesforce is reading and completing the Recruitment CRM Compliance Form for UW-Madison. If you are an Office of Admissions & Recruitment employee, this form is included in your on-boarding.

Once your form has been submitted, our Salesforce administrative team will work to grant you access. You will receive an email once access has been granted.

Logging In

Once you have been granted access you will want to bookmark the UW-Madison Salesforce link. This is our third-party login page, so it will first direct you to a UW-Madison login page where you will provide your NetID and password. Once you’ve authenticated, you will automatically be redirected to our Salesforce homepage.

Outlook Email Integration

Because of campus security rules, we must use a service email account when we are working in Cases. A service account is an email with @admissions.wisc.edu; our primary service account is onwisconsin@wisc.edu. However, when we email from a Contact record we may choose to have the “from” and “reply to” address be our own .wisc email address. We set up this email integration from the Email section of Settings; please see How to Integrate Outlook Email for step-by-step directions.

Configuring Chatter Email Notifications

Chatter is Salesforce's internal instant message communication tool. Because Chatter is not OAR's primary instant messaging tool, it is best practice to modify your Chatter settings to receive notification of messages in your Outlook inbox. See How to Modify Chatter Email Settings and Using Chatter to Communicate for more information.

Eloqua Profiler Plugin in Salesforce Contacts

We’re able to view an individual’s engagement with our marketing and application reminder messages through the Eloqua Profiler tool that is embedded in our Salesforce Contacts object. See How to Request Access to Eloqua Profiler to gain access.
