Intro
Undergrads who register for a CHM Research Credit course at the beginning of a semester must use the MyUW Course Search & Enroll (enroll.wisc.edu) tool to select their desired number of credits.
"Variable credit" is the Office of the Registrar's term for a course that allows students to choose their desired number of credits when enrolling.

Deadline for Changing Number of Credits
Changing Number of Credits Before Deadline
Changing Number of Credits After Deadline
Changing the number of credits after the deadline is not a quick or simple thing to do; it is a process, and it can take quite a bit of time from when you first fill out the form to when the Dean's office makes the change in the campus computers. Do NOT wait until the end of the semester. DO get the process started as soon as you decide that you want to make the change.
If the deadline has passed, you may request an increase or decrease in variable credit by submitting the Course Change Request form:
-
Go to "Request a Change: Audit, Honors, Pass/Fail, Credit, Section."
-
Complete the form, print it as a PDF, and sign and date it (using the signing app of your choice). FYI: The College of Letters & Science allows students to process the form electronically (e-signature), and the Center for Healthy Minds prefers electronic processing.
-
Email your signed document to Jane Lambert (jane.lambert@wisc.edu), and Jane will ask Dr. Richie Davidson to review it.
-
When the form has been electronically signed by Dr. Davidson, Jane will email the form back to you.
-
Email the form to the academic dean's office for your major/program:

Note: Sometimes, the Dean's office can process the form on the same day or within a few days. Other times when they're really busy, it can take considerable time for the form to be processed. Check your Student Center record periodically to see if the change has shown up yet, and if it has taken a couple of weeks, check back with your academic dean's office.
