CHM IT - Connecting to the Brain Imaging Study Drive
IMPORTANT: CHM IT does NOT control anything in the Brain Imaging universe! If you run into issues, please email Brain Imaging Help at help@bi.wisc.edu
Brain Imaging has recently increased their security and are requiring a managed computer (i.e. a CHM-issued laptop, desktop, Peach, or touchdown machine) to access the study drive or login servers.
If you are used to making a SSH connection to login.keck.waisman.wisc.edu (or karlo.keck.waisman.wisc.edu), or mounting the study drive (study[X].keck.waisman.wisc.edu, or keck.waisman.wisc.edu/study) you can no longer do this from a personal device.
CHM desktops, our remote desktop server Peach, or CHM-issued laptops should be able to connect.
You should not attempt an SSH connection from our remote desktop server Peach (i.e. remote connecting to peach, and then SSHing via peach to BI). This is not recommended or supported!
Requirements for connecting on a laptop
A CHM-issued laptop must have the following to connect to the Brain Imaging study drive, or to SSH to the login servers:
- An up-to-date operating system (The operating system must be either current or no more than one version behind)
- Your firewall must be turned on.
- Cisco AMP antivirus must be installed and turned on (this is installed automatically for you by default via WorkspaceOne.
- On mac, make sure it hasn't been accidentally turned off by checking System Settings -> Login Items & Extensions -> App Background Activity. Look for Cisco, and turn it on if needed)
- Qualys must be installed and active (this is installed automatically for you by default via WorkspaceOne)
- You must be connected to the Brain Imaging VPN.
Once all these requirements are met, you should be able to SSH to the BI login servers and/or mount the BI Study drive.
Mounting instructions are the same as for research drive, except
- You must be connected to the Brain Imaging VPN, not WiscVPN
- The path to connect will be different (usually keck.waisman.wisc.edu/study, or study[#].keck.waisman.wisc.edu
Please check the Brain Imaging Wiki for full connection instructions: https://wiki.keck.waisman.wisc.edu/wikis/mother/index.php/Connecting_Laptops_to_the_Study_Drive
