CHM IT - Research/Restricted Drives and Manifest Lists - Who has access to what?

Who has access to the drives in your research or restricted drives?

Who has access to the folders in your research/restricted drive?

When a research or restricted drive is created, a number of default manifest lists are created alongside it. One of these is the "lab" manifest group.

BY DEFAULT, the "lab" group can access ANY NEW FOLDER CREATED IN YOUR RESTRICTED OR RESEARCH DRIVE.

Let me repeat:

BY DEFAULT, the "lab" group can access ANY NEW FOLDER CREATED IN YOUR RESTRICTED OR RESEARCH DRIVE.

Do you want to lock down a folder so that only specific people can access it? Email help@chm.wisc.edu and let us know

  • the path of the folder (ex. "it's at my research drive\CoolStudy\SecretData\ShhDontTellAnyone\")
  • The NetIDs of who should have access (ex. "please give tnchristian and njvack access to this folder")

CHM IT will create the group and assign it to the folder. This process takes 24-48 hours (DoIT has to create a group in our Active Directory), so please do not put any sensitive data in the folder until we give you the go-ahead.

Once the manifest group is created, you can add and remove anyone you'd like via manifest lists.
