Mac OS X - Writing to NTFS Drives

This document outlines how to install the NTFS-3G driver on Mac OS X systems. This driver allows for Mac OS X (version 10.4 and later) to write to NTFS formatted drives.

Potential for data loss CAUTION: Please make sure your important data is backed-up to Bucky Backup or an external storage device (such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive) before attempting this procedure. DoIT assumes no liability for data loss that occurs as a result of this procedure.

  1. Download the NTFS-3G driver for free from the SourceForge directory.
  2. After you have downloaded the driver, locate the file in your Downloads folder, and double-click it to then open the installation folder.

  3. In the new window that opens, double-click Install NTFS-3G to begin the installation process.

  4. When the installer's Welcome window opens, click Continue.

  5. After reading through the Software License Agreement, click Continue.

  6. Then click Agree in order to agree to the software license terms.

  7. Click Install at the bottom right corner.

  8. You will then be prompted to enter your administrator username and password. Enter that information before clicking OK.

  9. After the installation prompts are complete, click on Restart to reboot your computer and finish the installation.

    Reboot computer to finish installation process
