Known Issues and Troubleshooting
Password Reset Screen Appears Though You Never Set a Password
Some Dell CLP laptops may display a reset password screen when you try to log in, even if you have never created a password. This can be confusing because the screen asks for an old password that does not exist.

What to do:
- When the Reset Password screen appears, do not enter anything in the Password, New Password, or Confirm Password fields.
- Press the Enter key.
- If the screen does not go away, or if another screen shows up, press Enter again.
- You may need to press Enter 3-4 times.
- The laptop should then continue to the desktop screen.
Password on 2022 MacBook Air Models
The MacBook Air 2022 loaner devices have remote management installed so they can be located if lost or stolen. During re-imaging, a default password is required to install this management profile.
- Default password: "doit" (all lowercase).
You may change the password after you begin using the device, if you wish.
Audio or Video Hardware Is Not Working (Windows Loaner Laptops)
If your camera, microphone, or speakers are not working:
- Fully update your Windows operating system.
- Restart the laptop.
- Test the audio/video hardware again.
For step-by-step instructions, see: Windows - Using Windows Update.
"Your Windows License Will Expire Soon" Message.
If you see a message indicating that your Windows license will expire soon:
- Connect the laptop to UWNet or WiscVPN.
- Keep the laptop connected for at least 90 minutes.
Windows licenses and update patches are managed remotely by SEAM and require periodic connection to the campus network to stay up-to-date.
If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, please bring the laptop, charger, and bag to DoIT Help Desk at 1210 W Dayton St.
