SAS at UW-Madison

This document explains the current state of SAS and associated features at UW-Madison.
SAS is a data management, multivariate analysis, business intelligence, and predictive analysis suite.

Eligibility

Facstaff are eligible for SAS access if they are in a University-paid position

Students are not eligible for SAS access.

This software is not allowed to be used for Commercial Purposes. Any other use violates the terms of our License Agreement with SAS. Our current site license covers Teaching and Research uses. We have a small number of Administrative Licenses available please contact licensing@doit.wisc.edu for more information.

Facstaff access at UW-Madison

SAS can be accessed directly through the Campus Software Library after a valid NetID login.  A separate download of the most recent SID File is required for activation.

 

Student access at UW-Madison

Students are not eligible for SAS access.

 

What's included in SAS for UW-Madison

Version updates and support are included in our license agreement.

SAS Institute provides online training and getting-started tutorials.  An account needs to be created to access SAS Starter Kit

 

Licensing Models

UW-Madison licenses SAS for individual and concurrent installations.

SAS License Types:

Teaching & Research License: As defined by SAS, is software used for purposes of classroom instruction, academic (non-commercial) research, and course work primarily related to the customer's post-secondary degree requirements, including the formulation of theses and dissertations. May be used by faculty and staff supporting these uses; in the case of academic research, it may be used by faculty, staff, and students on hardware that is owned or leased by the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Administrative Purposes License: As defined by SAS, is software used for purposes directly related to customer's operations as a post-secondary degree granting institution. This includes institutional research and any such use related to reporting about the UW to the UW. Such software may be used by customer's administrative employees (including faculty performing administrative duties) for such administrative purposes.
