What's included in SolidWorks for UW-Madison

UW-Madison has licensed the educational version of SolidWorks for instructional use.  The Software contains on-screen and printing features that identify the software and the related files as the SolidWorks Student Edition.

How to get started with SolidWorks

SolidWorks has a built-in tutorial program and also has a large, detailed SolidWorks Getting Started document.

Licensing Models

UW-Madison has licensed the Education or Student Edition.

  • A student license for the Software expires after the number of months specified on the package (12 months), does not include Subscription Service, and is not upgradeable.
  • The Software uses a soft-lock mechanism to limit installation to one computer only.
  • The Software contains on-screen and printing features that identify the software and the related files as the SolidWorks Student Edition, making it unsuitable for use in a professional environment; furthermore, files created by the Software may not be readable by commercial versions of DS SolidWorks software.
  • The packaging for the Student Edition uses the English language only; however, the Software has foreign-language versions and may be installed using any one of such language versions.

Troubleshooting

Software questions and information on how to use the software can be found through the vendor, Solidworks Support, an account will be required.
