Manifest - Service Description
This document provides an overview of the Manifest service.
What is Manifest?
Manifest (Formerly GAMS, formerly Populations, Affiliations, and Service Entitlements) is an enterprise group management system. It allows administrators to create and manage groups for authorizations for a given application or service. Manifest is an easy-to-use tool for managing access to resources for groups of people. The service works by creating groups (e.g., departmental, project-based, team, etc.) to which individuals can be added. Administrators then simply set up their web application or resource, such as a departmental wiki, so that only members of a predefined group can access it.
What Can Manifest do for Me?
Manifest allows departments to authorize users to log in to their resources using groups of Net-IDs, eliminating the need for another login credential. The service also allows for the creation of new Net-IDs for UW affiliates and collaborators. Users can be added individually or through pre-defined Data Driven Groups that share attributes (e.g., all employees or just a department). Groups can also request access to enterprise services for their members.
Manifest users include application administrators who want to consume Manifest groups for the purposes of authorization as well as designated custodians responsible for managing group membership.
The Manifest user interface is browser-based and will work with supported browsers. For a list of supported browsers see: NetID - Recommended Browsers. Users must access Manifest via the campus network or via campus VPN.
Manifest will be available on a 24x7 basis, except during the scheduled maintenance window, Tuesdays between 5am and 7am.
