Windows 8 - Changing a Local Windows Account Password

This document explains how to change your local account password in Windows 8.
  1. Move your cursor to the upper right corner of your computer screen to reveal the Charms Menu.

  2. In the Charms Menu, click the Settings icon.

    • Note: You can also go directly to the Settings menu from any screen by using the key combination Windows + I.

  3. At the bottom of the Settings menu, click Change PC settings.

    Change PC Settings button is at the bottom of the menu with no icon.

  4. Select the Users tab on the right. Under the Sign-in options section, click the Change your password button.

    Users is the first option on the left menu and is selected with the Change your password button under Sign-in options highlighted.

  5. You will be prompted to confirm your current password. Enter your password in the Current password field, then click Next.

  6. Type your new Windows account password in the first two fields, add a hint, then click Next.

  7. If the password reset was successful, the next screen will read, "Next time you sign in, use your new password." Click Finish.
