Common SPSS Software Error Codes
Here are some common SPSS error codes and how to fix them
Error 1311
Please ensure you have properly extracted and run the installer. To do this, follow these steps:
When you have downloaded the zip file, you should right click it and choose ‘Extract All’
Error 2072
If you encounter error #2070 on using SPSS, it means SPSS is unable to communicate with the license server. Please use the licensing key provided by your local IT Admin for your server based license.
If you were installing as a Stand Alone installation, please uninstall and follow the instructions on the Campus Software Library to install as an "Authorized User" of the software.
Error 7001
This error means that your application is unable to find a valid license. Confirm that you authorized your SPSS program using the License Authorization Wizard that was installed during the installation process:
Windows users:
- Navigate to Start > All Programs > (or "all apps" relevant program directory).
- Right Click on "License Authorization Wizard" and select "Run as Administrator."
- Complete the license authorization wizard, by re-entering the authorization code you have been provided with
- Restart SPSS
Mac users:
- Search in Spotlight to find the SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard
- Complete the license authorization wizard, entering the authorization code from the Campus Software Library SPSS download page
- Restart SPSS
Mac OS Sonoma Errors
There are known issues with running SPSS on Mac OS Sonoma.
There is an issue that prevents SPSS from launching a local server by default. The error message looks like this:

After any of these issues, you may need to run the License Authorization Wizard, found in your IBM SPSS folder, and enter in your activation key from the Campus Software Library SPSS page to access your software.
