WiscWeb - KnowledgeBase Search Plugin

The KnowledgeBase Search plugin allows you to display a link to your KnowledgeBase hub when users search a key term on your site. Unlike the solution for UW Theme Classic, this option will not display results right within your search results page. Instead, users will have to click a link that takes them out to a KnowledgeBase page of search results for that key term.

Purpose and use

The KnowledgeBase (KB) is a platform for easily creating, displaying, sharing, and managing web-based knowledge documents. It is designed to provide constituents within the University of Wisconsin-Madison and other institutions of higher education with a central location for storing and maintaining knowledge. Within WiscWeb, you have the ability to combine the general search of your site with a search of a specific KnowledgeBase group space. This is a good way to drive traffic to your KB, and you can create similar links back to your website.

Activation and access

For now, please submit a request to have this plugin enabled on your site.

Using the plugin

After the plugin is activated, you'll have to set the site to search your KnowledgeBase space:

  1. Hover over Settings in your dashboard
  2. Select "KnowledgeBase search"
  3. Enter your "KnowledgeBase group directory name" into the related field (ex: wiscweb)
  4. Click "Save Settings"

Conduct a search on your site for a keyword term that appears both in your site and in your KnowledgeBase. You should now see a little gray box above your search results that links off to KnowledgeBase results for the same term:

The KB Search plugin shows a gray box below the page title for the search page which links to your KB search results.
