Mac OS X (10.5+) - Finding the IP address and MAC address

When troubleshooting network problems it is often useful to know the comptuer's IP address and MAC address. On Mac OS 10.5.x or newer, you can find the IP and MAC addresses by checking System Preferences.

  1. Open the Apple Menu in the top left. Select System Preferences.

  3. Select Network.

  4. Select Advanced, and you will be able to your view your MAC Address for your Wi-Fi connection at the bottom. Your IP address will be in TCP/IP.
