Running a Scan

  1. When Malwarebytes opens opens it give a brief description of Malwarebytes, if you are interested in this information click Learn More, otherwise feel free to just click Close.

  2. To run a scan with Malwarebytes click Scan Now.

  3. MBAM will now perform a full system scan which may take anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours to complete.

  4. When the scan is complete...
    • If Malwarebytes did not find anything, feel free to close the program.

    • If Malwarebytes has found malware, you will see something similar to the window below.

Note: Your results will most likely differ from the screenshot below. By default, all items should be selected but still check to see that they are all selected, select any that are not and then click Quarantine Selected to remove all items that you selected.

    • After all of the items have been quarantined click Close and then restart your computer.

Note: Malwarebytes might prompt to restart automatically so make sure anything that you are working on is saved before clicking Close.

  5. Sometimes, MBAM may not be able to detect all infections unless the full scan is performed in Safe Mode. To accomplish this, follow the following directions below.

Running a Scan in Safe Mode

  1. Restart your computer

  2. While your manufacturer's logo is on screen, tap the F8 key. If Windows begins to start up, you need to restart once again and tap F8 earlier.

  3. You should be at a black screen with white text. Select Safe Mode (just Safe Mode, not Safe Mode with Networking) with the arrow keys and press Enter.

  4. This process does not work for some versions of Windows and for some computers so if your computer boots normally without the above prompts then follow this process: Access Safe Mode through msconfig. You will not need the internet so you do not need to complete step 4 in the instructions that this link brings you to.

  5. It may take a bit longer than usual to load. Note that your screen will be low resolution and have fewer colors so everything will look different, but this is normal. Once at the desktop, follow Steps 2 through 6 above.

If you've run a scan in Safe Mode and you are still having issues, try the documents listed below.
