Effective June 30, 2019, the WiscChat service will be turned off and individuals using their UW-Madison email address to authenticate into their desktop chat client will not be able to login. Targeted communication was sent to these individuals on June 17th.

Steps to take before June 30th

  1. Phase out usage of current chat client and transition to one of the following campus supported chat services:

  2. Add existing contacts to preferred chat service. If no action is taken, access to contact list will be lost.

  3. Optional: Save current chat client’s conversation history. Refer to chat client’s documentation for instructions.

  4. Delete account settings and uninstall current chat client if no longer being used. WiscChat clients saves NetID passwords to disk, so make sure it doesn’t linger.

Individuals who are unsure which chat client to select will need to consult their IT department for further guidance or their colleagues for recommendations on which service to use for collaboration.

If you have any questions, please contact the DoIT Help Desk.
