The latest security update for Windows Media Player breaks the ability to seek (move forward in a video). http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS06-005.mspx

DoIT Streaming Media has implemented a fix on their streaming services, admins that would like the fix should contact DoIT Streaming Media at streaming@lists.wisc.edu.

Microsoft has been made aware of this issue and is working on a solution. Right now you have two options:

  1. Wait until Microsoft releases an update
  2. Uninstall KB911565 update from Add/Remove programs
A major symptom of this problem is when you attempt to seek, the video jumps to the desired place but freezes and the seek handle files back to the beginning of the video and the video either stops playing or returns to the beginning.
