WiscNews/UseNet service ending July 1 Monday, April 24, 2006 WiscNews/UseNet, a forum created by DoIT in 1993 to allow students and staff to participate in local, national and global textual discussions groups, will be discontinued on July 1, 2006.
Declining user numbers, departmental budget cuts and the availability of alternate services have led DoIT to the decision to discontinue the service. “In the face of changing campus information technology priorities and an ever-expanding range of news and online discussion options, we had to make some tough decisions. Unfortunately, WiscNews was among the services we decided to suspend,” said Annette Stratman-Durrer, a senior information processing consultant at DoIT. Current WiscNews/UseNet users may want to consider other available discussion forums, such as Google Groups, which can be found at http://groups.google.com
