DoIT decommissioned the Milwaukee Dial Pool effective July 1, 2006 due to the cost of providing and maintaining the service far outweighing actual usage.
Broadband home access is prevalent throughout Wisconsin and particularly in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Many phone companies now offer attractive, flat-rate long distance plans (for access to the Madison modem pool), and the campus VPN server will accept connections from all Internet Service Provider sites. This will give the few remaining customers who use this service ample time to make alternate accommodations.
