UW-Madison Zoom users who invite Zoom for Government (ZfG) users to their meeting may need to modify their meeting settings to allow ZfG users to attend their meeting via the web.

Zoom for Government (ZfG) users will not be able to attend a meeting via the web if the following setting is enabled by the meeting host, "Enabling Only authenticated users can join meetings from Web client". Because ZfG users are hosted on a different web platform from consumer Zoom users, their authentication on the web is not recognized by consumer Zoom hosts. Zoom is aware of this behavior and stated this meeting setting is working as designed.

ZfG users can confirm their Zoom account type by checking one of the following:

  • View Account profile > Account type.
  • View the Zoom link that is used to access your ZfG account. It may include, www.zoomgov.com, in the url.

Workaround for ZfG users:

  • Join the meeting using an updated Zoom desktop client.
  • Use a consumer Zoom account to join a meeting via the web.

If you have any questions, please contact the DoIT Help Desk.

Thank you,

UW-Madison Zoom team
