A new worm, referred to as the Code Red worm is spreading via vulnerabilities in Microsoft's IIS web server. More information about the worm, as well as a patch provided by Microsoft to eliminate the vulnerability can be found at Microsoft’s web site. In addition to compromising unpatched hosts, the Code Red worm can also cause denial of service attacks on HP printers and IIS web servers.

Symantec is offering a free tool for Windows NT (4.0 and 2000) that can detect vulnerable systems and scan for traces of the Code Red worm. Click here to download the free tool.
