Honorlock - Action Required by Instructors before June 12th Update to LTI 1.3

Learn@UW is upgrading Honorlock from LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3 on June 12th. Before that date, instructors must open Honorlock 1.3 in any of their Canvas courses where Honorlock is used. This will ensure your exam settings will be imported to the new Honorlock integration.

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the exam proctoring experience, we are upgrading the Honorlock/Canvas LTI integration from version 1.1 to 1.3. This update will occur on Friday, June 12th. This update adds enhanced security features to the Honorlock/Canvas integration. There are no changes to functionality.

Before June 12th, please take these steps to access the new Honorlock 1.3 integration. Accessing the new version before the update will ensure your Honorlock exam settings remain intact and continue to function properly after the update.

Perform these steps before June 12th

Complete the following steps prior to the June 12th upgrade for each Canvas course with which you use Honorlock:

  1. Add the Honorlock 1.3 navbar item to your Canvas course. 
    1. See these instructions on how to add a navbar item to your course.
  2. Select the Honorlock 1.3 item on the navbar to open the new version of the Honorlock integration.
  3. Check your exam settings to confirm configurations are correct. This is to verify that your original Honorlock exam settings have been imported.
  4. If you choose, you can now remove the Honorlock navbar item from your course. If you choose to leave it, after June 12, the Honorlock 1.3 navbar item will be renamed to just Honorlock and the old Honorlock navbar item will go away. 

Accessing Honorlock after June 12th

If you’re unable to perform the above steps before June 12, you will need to do these things after June 12 in each of your Canvas courses:

  1. Add the Honorlock navbar item to your Canvas course navbar (see these instructions on how to add a navbar item to your course).
  2. Launch Honorlock by clicking the Honorlock navbar item.
  3. Reset your Honorlock exam settings before administering the exams.
