A major upgrade to DoIT’s mainframe is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

The upgrade has been planned following extensive testing by DoIT staff and users who have applications hosted on the mainframe. The upgrade will take place beginning Saturday, May 24, at noon and conclude Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. and will primarily affect 3270 transactions, which include applications for accounting, budget, human resources, and payroll. 3270 transactions will be unavailable for the remainder of the holiday weekend and will return to normal availability on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 a.m.

The upgrade will not change the functionality of the mainframe, however there will be one change in its appearance, one change in behavior of final exit from the system and, for some users, one change in how users access information from outside the UW System network. For details on the appearance change, see http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=7742. For information about behavior of final exit from the system, see http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=7745.

For those who use a QWS3270 desktop client and need access to the mainframe from outside the UW System network, you will now need to use either VPN or the Dial-in pool. For instructions to download, install and connect the VPN client see http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=7744.
