On Monday, August 14, DoIT will begin migrating Bucky Backup2 to a new server beginning at 6:00am.

As a result of the migration, the Bucky2 server will be unavailable for approximately 12 hours. The Bucky Backup1 server will not be affected by this migration. If you are unsure of which Bucky Backup server your client connects to, please check your tcpserveraddress parameter in the dsm.opt file. Only users with an address of buckybackup2.doit.wisc.edu or buckybackup2a.doit.wisc.edu will be affected by this migration. If you have buckybackup2.doit.wisc.edu or buckybackup2a.doit.wisc.edu in the tcpserveraddress parameter, the only impact to you will be the 12 hour outage. You do not need to make any changes to your client.

If the tcpserveraddress parameter in the dsm.opt file contains an IP address rather than the DNS address, the IP address will need to be changed sometime after 6:00am on 08/14 or backups will fail after the migration is complete. The current IP addresses for the Bucky Backup2 server are 144.92.164.6 and 144.92.9.17. The new IP addresses for the Bucky2 server after the migration will be 144.92.9.124 and 144.92.9.125. The DNS addresses of the Bucky Backup2 server will remain the same.

All Novell clients will have an IP address in the tcpserveraddress parameter as the current Novell client does not support DNS addressing. The IP address will need to be changed or backups will fail after the migration. Again, only clients with the Bucky Backup2 IP address will need to change.

If you have any questions regarding this migration or the impact of the changing IP address, please contact the DoIT Help Desk at 264-HELP. If they are unable to answer your question, they will open a problem case and dispatch it to the proper technologist. This will help us track any inquiries better.
