To increase mainframe security, we are implementing stronger password controls. These improvements will make it harder for someone to guess your password, and make it less likely that the sensitive data we are responsible for protecting will be compromised.

  1. New Requirements

The new rules follow standard practices implemented at many universities for safeguarding access to information. The details can be found at: http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=2246

  2. Implementation Schedule

These new rules will be in effect for any password change beginning Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

You are assigned within one of the following three groups. Your group has a month during which you must change your password. However, you may change your password earlier.

If your UserID is: You must change it within:

    • AAA thru GZZ Jul 15, 2009 – Aug 15, 2009
    • HAA thru MZZ Aug 15, 2009 – Sep 15, 2009
    • NAA thru ZZZ Sep 15, 2009 – Oct 15, 2009
  3. Getting Help

The instructions for changing your password have not changed. They can be found at: http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=2512
