On Thurday morning, Nov. 29th, between 6:00 am and 7:00 am, DoIT Network Services will be swapping in a server. Its most well-known names are:

dns.doit.wisc.edu
dogie.macc.wisc.edu
dolphin.doit.wisc.edu
(although it has others). The services that will be interrupted are:
  • Campus DNS users that don't also use some other DNS server as a backup. (Most people use a 2nd server called telgate.doit.wisc.edu);

  • All DoIT-DSL customers (trying to get a lease during that hour);

  • Campus NTP users that don't also use some other NTP server as a backup;

  • DHCP users on the following LANs:
    - DoIT Staff (all sites);
    - DoIT Help Desk;
    - Dayton InfoLab;
    - IMCC InfoLab;
    - Math InfoLab;
    - Middleton InfoLab;
    - Weston InfoLab;
    - International Institute.
Although there is a 1-hour 'window', the actual outage should not last longer than 20 minutes.

If you experience problems after 7:00 am, please reboot your computer and try again, before calling the DoIT Help Desk. (264-4357 or 4-HELP)

We apologize for the inconvenience, but want you to know that we continue to strive to make the campus network even better.
