UW-Madison has established a policy of providing disabled persons with full access to university Internet and WWW resources. You can review the policy at http://www.wisc.edu/doit/accessibility. DoIT has a team of folks working on providing a wide range of resources from answers to basic questions to complete web design. Help Desk phone support and labs have been assigned the task of providing first level support to questions and problems with policy compliance.

Phone support staff should be familiar with Web Accessibility support. See http://helpdesk.doit.wisc.edu/internal/page.php?id=806 and the accompanying FAQ.

All lab and phone staff should be familiar with the FAQ http://helpdesk.doit.wisc.edu/browse.php?sec_id=19 and be able to answer questions and refer users to the FAQ.

In addition, phone support has an escalation procedure in place to assist callers with review of web sites and referral to DoIT resources.

These policies and handling procedures are effective immediately. Public announcements have been made in the media and a bulk mailing will shortly go our to all faculty and staff. The DoIT HD will be listed as a primary contact. While I don't expect lots of inquiries, this is a highly visible and important program to the university. Please make yourselves familiar with documentation and be prepared to respond when a user asks about Web Accessibility.
