High traffic due to returning students and virus related activity is impacting the Resnet DHCP server.

High traffic due to returning students and virus related activity is impacting the Resnet DHCP server. To combat this, they are shutting off resnet access for suspected virus hosts. If a user is getting "media disconnected" or "network cable unplugged" messages, especially if it worked before, it is more likely because of a virus than a bad jack. Get the computer patched against RPC, run Blaster and Welchia removal tools, and install Norton. Once the user is patched and virus-free, the case can be escalated for resnet. If a user is having trouble renewing DHCP, it may take some a number of tries to get through to the server. Try three times, wait a few minutes, and try three more times. If the problem persists, a case can be escalated to resnet.
