Virus Update: Netsky.K Reaches Campus

Posted: 09:48:54, Monday, Mar 8, 2004   Expiration: 18:00:00, Tuesday, Mar 9, 2004

W32.Netsky.K@mm is a mass-mailing worm that uses its own SMTP engine to send itself to the email addresses it finds when scanning hard drives and mapped drives. The Subject, Body, and Attachment vary.

As of mid-Monday (3/8), this was a low-level threat. DoIT will install the latest virus definition --and notify the campus to do likewise on the desktop --as soon as it becomes available.

For details, see the following:
From Symantec, W32.Netsky.K@mm
From McAfee, Virus Profile: W32/Netsky.j@MM
