Sunday morning (3/11) from 12:01am - 6:00am CST there will be a complete outage for the WiscNet hub at UW-Madison.

WiscNet Members,

Sunday morning (3/11) from 12:01am - 6:00am CST there will be a complete outage for the WiscNet hub at UW-Madison. This outage will affect all sites served by the equipment at this location. This includes the following:

All sites connected to r-uwmadison-hub
All sites connected to r-portage-vhub (SCING)
University of Wisconsin-Madison
State of Wisconsin Government
OC-3 to Genuity/Chicago
Peering with Madison area ISP's
Akamai caches
WiscNet/X-Stop web filtering
WiscNet hosted web and e-mail
dns.uw-mad.wiscnet.net (205.213.108.100)

The affected members will not be able to reach the Internet or other WiscNet members. Other WiscNet members may see brief route instability at the beginning and end of the outage as traffic is rerouted to and from WiscNet's UW-Milwaukee hub connections to the Internet.

During this outage, Norlight will be upgrading their SONET equipment at UW-Madison to accommodate future growth. Norlight and WiscNet will make every effort to minimize the length of this outage, but it may last the entire scheduled period.

This upgrade is necessary to enable the installation of a new OC-12 circuit to Chicago scheduled for the end of this month. The OC-12 circuit will allow WiscNet to increase the available capacity to the Internet in the future.
