The recent WiscWorld smtp change has caused send mail problems for some Coex/CES/Wisplan users. Any of those users calling us that are NOT on campus should be directed to 1-800-760-7610.

Many of you may not even know what a Wisplan,Coex customer is. I won't go into details but they are a small group of UW-Extension users who from time to time call the helpdesk for support. Until recently- they had email address like john.smith@ces.wisc.edu or something simliar- which was actually just an alias account for a jsmith@facstaff.wisc.edu.

Many of these customers were also affected (and will be affected) by the smtp server changes because MANY of them actually dial local ISP's and then check their email.

We will be hearing less and less from Coex/Wisplan customers because of 2 big changes:

  • They shouldn't be using their facstaff accounts anymore- UWEX has set up a separate mail server for them.

  • Any coex/wisplan users calling us that are NOT on campus should be directed to 1-800-760-7610. Yes that's right...we don't support them anymore and you should explain to them that they should be calling the UW-Extension helpdesk at the above 1-800 #. The exception to this are people who are members of Coex but are here on campus. We can and should help them with Eudora, Netscape and other Wiscworld questions. If they have questions about a UWEC email account though, we will be referring them to the Wisplan Helpdesk 265-3895.

As always if there are questions about support for this small group of customer, feel free to ask myself, HDI or a team lead. I have done stats on typical Coex/Wisplan usage of our Helpdesk and it boils down to less than a call a day.
