Manifest - Manage Group Privileges

Manifest privileges define who has control to see the group and what access they have to make changes. Note that having a privilege on a group does not make that person/group a member of the group, so your group administrators/managers may not actually have access to the content protected by the group. Privileges can be assigned to individuals and Manifest groups, but in most cases, assigning privileges to a group is more useful and secure so that you can avoid maintaining the same list of people repeatedly. Group administrators can perform all management functions on a group.

Designate a backup administrator for your group right away to prevent abandoned or orphaned groups upon your transfer from the department or school, or departure from the University. Orphaned groups, defined as a group all of whose administrator(s) has/have left the University, may be deleted in order to maintain efficiency of the service.

Note: Group permissions are separate from folder permissions. A person with permissions on a Manifest group does not necessarily have any permissions on the folder the group is in.

Group Privileges

Here's what each privilege can see:

  • Admin: Members, Privileges, Invites, Contacts, Services. Able to modify everything
  • Update: Members, Privileges, Invites, Services. Not able to modify privileges or contacts
  • Read: Members, Contacts. Not able to modify any of them
  • View: Group, Contacts
  • Optin/OptOut: Individuals/Individuals in Groups with these privileges will see the "Join Group" button and can choose to opt in (see: Manifest - Using Opt-In Groups)

Note:  In order for someone else to use your group in Manifest (add it to their group), they must have at minimum View privileges on it.
