Safari - How to Delete Bookmarks
This document explains how to delete bookmarks in Safari.
Note: These instructions were created using Safari for Windows. However, they are applicable to Safari on the Mac.
- Open Safari. On the far left side of the Bookmarks bar, click the open-book icon.
- The bookmark list appears. The left column shows collections like News and Sports, represented by folders. The right column shows individual bookmarks.
Note: The right column may only show a visual representation of your bookmarks (also known as a cover flow view). If this is the case, look below the scroll bar in the cover flow view for three horizontal lines. Holding your mouse over this area should change the mouse cursor to a hand. You can then click and drag upward to reveal the list of bookmarks.
- Select any bookmarks or collections you want to remove. Select Edit > Delete or right click (Ctrl-Click if your mouse only has one button) and select Delete. If you change your mind, choose Edit > Undo Remove Bookmark.
- Click on the open-book icon again to close the Bookmarks menu window.
The Bookmarks bar and Bookmarks menu can't be deleted.
Address Book / Contacts (if present) and Bonjour can't be deleted, but you can remove them from the list by unselecting them in Bookmark preferences (found by opening the Safari menu and selecting Preferences... > Bookmarks).
History and All RSS Feeds can't be deleted, but you can delete individual bookmarks within them.
