Why Can't I Log into Profile?
At this time, Profile is designed to display information to individuals with a valid NetID that have an active role at UW-Madison. Individuals that are no longer in an active role (e.g. former employees), will not be able to access Profile.
If you believe you are in an active role at UW-Madison (e.g. current student, employee, or affiliate), and you cannot access Profile, please contact the Help Desk. Please also contact the Help Desk if you aren't in an active role and need to update your name in use.
How do I change my Primary/Legal Name?

- Other Roles: Contact the Human Resources department for your respective agency
- After your legal name has been changed you can request a NetID change
How do I edit my Campus Business Email?
UW-Madison employees and affiliates can set their Campus Business Email by navigating to the Contact Information page and then the Emails section. Click "Edit Campus Business Email," enter a valid email address, and confirm it. Click save to complete the process. It may take up to 24 hours for changes to be reflected in other campus systems. Also, please note that you cannot leave Campus Business Email blank, you must enter a valid email address.
How do I update/change my Name in Use (Preferred Name)?
You are now able to edit your Name in Use directly in Profile! Select the “Personal Information” page and navigate to the “Name in Use (Preferred Name)” section. Click “Edit” to set or modify your name and “Submit” when you’re done. It may take up to 48 hours for changes to be reflected in campus systems. If a change is not visible after that time, ensure that you have completely logged out of the impacted application before logging back in.

I am an employee and have my mobile phone set in HRS. Why doesn't it populate for me in my UW-Madison Profile?
- This is a known issue. The Human Resources System (HRS) does not export cell phone information for employees to date. This is due to being unable to differentiate personal mobile phone information from work mobile phone information and out of respect for employee privacy around this data element.
