How to Manage Computer Lab Checkouts During Holiday Hours
During holiday time, the Libraries and their checkout centers may be closed or have reduced hours. Due to this, patrons need to be able to adjust how they manage their checkouts in order to avoid becoming overdue.
Holidays Which May Affect Library Hours

- Spring Break
- Spring Finals Week
- Independence Day
- Memorial Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Break
- Reduced hours the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
- Closed on Thanksgiving Day.
- Friday after thanksgiving has limited hours at some locations.

How to Renew Items Around Holidays or Start of Breaks
The default return time for renewed checkouts is 7 days later with an end time of 9pm. During holiday periods, this time may fall on a day or time that the library is closed. Follow the instructions below to renew your item around the holiday schedule:
- Find the holiday hours for the library the item was checked out from (see links above).
- If the library is open on the 7th day, but for limited hours, change the return time to a time that the library is open.
- If the library is not open on the 7th day, change the return date to the last day that the library is open prior to the holiday.
- The checkout may be renewed again for another 7 days to be due after the holiday period.
- Note: renewing an item for longer than 7 days will result in an error. Ensure that the return date chosen is not more than 7 days from the current return date.
In cases where the library will be closed for longer than 7 days:
- Set the return time to the day before the library is closed. The item must be returned on that day and cannot be kept during the time the library is closed unless an exception is granted. To request an exception, contact technologycirculation@library.wisc.edu with an explanation of the situation. Please note that exceptions are not guaranteed.
