College Library InfoLab Scanner Instructions

This document provides instructions for using the scanners in the College Library Infolab. There are two scanners, one connected to a Mac computer and one connected to a Dell computer.

Dell Scanning Instructions: 

  1. Prepare the scanner.
    1. Turn on the scanner - a green light will flash above "ready" to indicate that the scanner is on
    2. Place your document face down in the top left corner of the scanner
    3. Close the scanner
  2. Open the scanning application.
    1. Log into the adjacent Dell computer
      • If a patron is using the computer that is connected to the scanner, you many notify a staff member to respectfully ask them to borrow the computer for its intended scanning purposes. 
    2. Search for "Epson Scan 2" and open the application
      • Scanning options will appear in the top left corner of the computer screen
  3. Scan the document.
    1. Adjust the scanning settings as needed
      • Resolution
      • Image format
      • File name
      • File location
    2. Click "Scan"
  4. Export the document.
    1. Once the document is scanned, file explorer will automatically open to the chosen file location
    2. Export the file as needed
  5. Remove the document from the scanner.
  6. Turn the scanner off.

Mac Scanning Instructions:

  1. Prepare the scanner.
    1. Turn the scanner on - the light will be green
    2. Place your document face down in the scanner bed
    3. cover the document and close the scanner

  1. Open the scanning application.

    • Log into the adjacent Mac computer

**If a patron is using the computer that is connected to the scanner, you many notify a staff member to respectfully ask them to borrow the computer for its intended scanning purposes. 

b. Open Finder > Applications > Preview (Or search for "Preview")

      1. The Preview application will appear in your taskbar - no additional window will open.

c. In the top left corner of the screen select File > Import from Scanner [EPSON Perfection V800/V850] 

  1. Scan the document.

    1. You may click "Show Details" to see all available scanning options such as:

      1. Color

      2. Size

      3. Document Type

      4. Image Correction

      5. Etc.

    2. Select "Scan" to scan your document.

      1. You may be prompted to outline your document. Drag the cursor to outline the desired document area
  2. Export the document.

    1. After scanning, right click your scan preview to export or save locally.

    2. Alternatively, click the red circle to close the file. You will be prompted to export or save your scan. 
  3. Remove your item from the scanner.

  4. Turn the Scanner off.
