Paper extensions beyond the final exam period are generally disfavored. In extenuating circumstances, students may request an extension. Law School Rule 6.02(2). Such extensions are within the instructor's discretion and are not guaranteed. Students should refer to their course syllabus for guidance on whether an extension for an assignment or paper is allowed. In the case of anonymously-graded assignments, or when explicitly directed to do so by the instructor, students may contact the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to request an extension.

Deadline Extensions (Incompletes)
If an extension is granted, the instructor and student should establish a reasonable deadline extension, which is usually within a few days of the original deadline. In extenuating circumstances, the instructor may grant an extension of one full semester. Law School Rule 6.02(2)-(3).
The instructor may report an incomplete (I) as a temporary grade to students who are granted extensions. Law School Rule 6.02(3). The instructor will report a final grade for the course by the earlier of (1) the student completing the work or (2) the extended deadline. Law School Rule 6.02(4). Students who fail to complete the course and/or do not meet their extended deadlines may receive an F in the course or a permanent incomplete (PI) in certain situations. Law School Rule 6.02(1) & (5)-(6).
Students who receive an incomplete are ineligible for Dean's Honor List in that particular semester. Law School Rule 8.05. Graduating students should be aware that requesting an extension may delay their graduation timeline. Additionally, students under the jurisdiction of the Retentions Committee may not request an extension. Law School Rule 6.02(7).
