Denodo: Connect to Data Marketplace

This article describes how to access the Denodo Data Marketplace.

Denodo Data Marketplace allows users to explore and access Denodo content without setting up any additional tools.

To access the Denodo Data Marketplace users must be approved for access to the platform as well as approved through Data Governance for the Subdomains and Data Classification levels they wish to access. Accessing Denodo requires users to be inside the Campus Network or connected to the UW GlobalProtect VPN.

Browsing Databases in Denodo Data Marketplace

When starting your journey, it is recommended that you begin with the Browse Databases / Folders tool in Denodo Data Marketplace.

  1. Locate the Browse tool and select Databases
Browse Tool of Denodo Data Marketplace

  2. Data views are organized into folders or related data sources and then can be explored by the views each folder contains.
The folders will appear at the left of the screen, and folders can be expanded and collapsed using the [+] and [-] icons respectively.
The 3 folders of particular importance are
    1. ext_bdw - which contains views from the Badger Data warehouse (Snowflake)
    2. ext_eap - which contains views from the EAP warehouse
    3. ext_ia - which contains views from the InfoAccess warehouse (Oracle)

      Denodo databases and folders

  3. In order to explore a view,
    1. Click on the name of the view in the left side of the screen.
    2. View the tools available for the view, which include Summary, Schema, Query, Data Preparation, and Relationships
    3. Notice there is an "Open In" tool.  This allows you save data connection strings for Tableau or PowerBI, or Connection URLs needed for other database tools.
    4. Notice there is an icon in the shape of a question mark (?) which will provide context sensitive help.

Select database view which brings up the Summary tab and additional tools for that data view

  4. For more information about navigating the tools available in the sub-menu, please access the 'Using Data Marketplace Tools' article in the Related Articles section below.
