Denodo: ODBC Setup (Windows)
This document provides the basic information for setting up a tool agnostic ODBC connection to Denodo.
Summary and Requirements
This document provides the basic information for setting up a tool agnostic ODBC connection to Denodo.
- Must be connected to VPN or Campus Network
- Must have administrative rights to computer (or have helpdesk do the setup)
Note: These instructions are for 64 bit Windows installations - if you are using any other operating systems, you may consider the JDBC Driver (link to other KB here)
Install Driver
- Download the most recent Windows driver from https://community.denodo.com/drivers/odbc/
- First time users will need to create a free Denodo Community account
- Use your “@wisc.edu” email address when signing up (not “@doit.wisc.edu, etc.) to qualify for free Community content
- In addition to allowing you to download the ODBC drivers, your Community account will get you access to a great deal of additional training materials and free self-paced learning tracks on community.denodo.com
- Extract the contents of the zip to a convenient location
- Run the DenodoODBC_x64.msi file
- The installer can be found under the “msi” folder
- Folder > denodo-vdp-odbcdriver-windows > msi
- Note: If your computer flags the installer file as a risk, you can override that by clicking More Info (note: only ever override files you trust)

- And then click Run anyway

- Accept the License Agreement and click Next
- Do not change settings on the following page, click Next
- Click Install (will trigger admin rights needed, enter appropriate credentials)
Setup DSN
- Once your ODBC driver is installed, open ODBC Data Source Administrator (64-bit)
- When searched from start menu, also appears as “ODBC Data Sources (64-bt)”
- Note: may need to choose “Run as Administrator" if you encounter errors
- In System DSN or User DSN tab, depending on the scale you’d like to define, click Add
- Note: User is only for current user, System is global but requires admin privileges
- Select the DenodoODBC ANSI(x64) driver

- Set up DSN using the following variables
-
- Data Source: Name the connection (Recommended: DenodoODBC)
- Description: Optional description
- User: YourNetID@wisc.edu
- Server: connect.data.wisc.edu
- Port: 9996
- User: YourNetID@wisc.edu
- Password: Your NetID password
- Database: semantic (default db, can connect to all once logged in)
- SSL Mode: Required (can leave ‘Start Encrypted’ unchecked)

- Click Save
