MyUW Madison - MYUW-004 Permission Error Code

MyUW Madison users may run into error messages on their tiles that prevent them from accessing content. This document describes the MYUW-004 error and how to remove affected tiles.

Do you need access?

Sometimes, the MYUW-004 error may appear over widgets that you no longer need or were added to your homepage in error, especially after using a different UW System portal.

If you no longer require access to the widget, you can easily remove it by clicking the three dots and selecting "Remove from home".

After selecting the widget menu (three dots in top right corner), the option "Remove from home" appears.

Troubleshooting

There are a few different reasons why you might get a MYUW-004 error and the MyUW Portal isn't able to display the widget you're looking for.

Session error

When you log into the MyUW portal with your NetID, you initiate a session. This allows you to navigate within the portal without having to log back in until your session expires or you choose to log out. If you encounter an error, refreshing your session can often fix the problem.

To resolve this issue, either select log in again on the error message or manually log out and back in.

If the error is still there when you return, your permissions may have changed.

Your permissions have changed

If you recently left the university or changed roles, such as leaving a job or educational program, you may lose access to certain widgets. For instance, employees lose access to Time and Absence, Payroll, and Benefits widgets the day after their position ends.
Accidental changes can affect your permissions, so please contact the appropriate office to correct your information.

If you aren't able to access a widget for applicants or students, please contact the Office of Admissions or the Office of the Registrar

If you aren't able to access a widget for employees, please contact UW Service Operations to confirm that your affiliation with the university is still accurate, or request content as a former employee.

Deleted content

Sometimes a department or service may discontinue support for an application, resulting in its removal. This happens very rarely, and not without advance notice.

If you believe that content has been deleted or all other troubleshooting steps failed, please contact the DoIT Help Desk for assistance.
